Modern problems of management of Russian libraries

Some modern problems of management of the Russian libraries in the conditions of market economy and globalization are considered. Libraries complicate global issues such as the expansion of the Internet, commercialization of culture, a reduction in the number of libraries, the deformation of the book market, reading dysfunction, the demand for «paper» book, etc. It’s necessary to increase the efficiency of library management. Much depends on it in the conditions of continuously changing external environment of the library, sometimes aggressive in its manifestations in relation to it. Library management should be a mechanism of adaptation of the library to the market economy of post-industrial society. However, this is hampered by a number of restrictions, in particular, the low strategic culture of library managers, «weakness», fragmentary or complete lack of library marketing, lack of professionalism of management personnel, lack of systemic motivation of staff due to incompetence of managers in the field of social psychology, poor selection of alleged library staff. The negative impact of these problems on the functioning and innovative development of the library is characterized.
