The article deals with the history of the evolution of the philosophical novel during the three centuries of its existence. The specific character of genre of the novel by Kurt Vonnegut «Cat’s Cradle» is analyzed separately. «Cat’s Cradle» is looked upon as a philosophical novel of the XX century for the warning novel is a particular case of the philosophical novel. The specific character of genre is analyzed in the light of traditional features of the genre and innovations of the author.
