Theatrical practices in overseas correctional facilities

The paper identifies the correction potential of foreign theatrical practices in correctional institutions and reveals the
main tendencies of this field development. The factors contributing to the development of theatrical practices in correctional
institutions are determined. It is emphasized that theatrical practice in correctional institutions has a rich history and started
long before its infl uence on prisoners was studied. Theatrical practices in correctional institutions are currently supported
by authorities and administrations in various jurisdictions. It is concluded that despite the existence of different views on
individual issues of the design and implementation of theatrical projects in prisons, most researchers and practitioners believe
that participation in theatrical projects is particularly valuable for prisoners. The prospects for scientific research on theatrical
practices in correctional institutions as a complex multidimensional phenomenon are linked to the use of an interdisciplinary
approach and to the transcendence of individual scientific disciplines in addressing this phenomenon.
