The embodiment of the Empire style in the «fashion» engraving of the French and Russian fashion magazines in the first quarter of the XIX century

The article is devoted to the «fashion» engraving of the last years of the XVIII century and the first decades of the XIX century, when this kind of creative activity of artists and engravers went out on the new level of quality and values. New demands of life caused needs in the new art, the new language, new expressive means. Passion of the ancient culture coincided with the urgent requirements of heroic art, creating images worthy of imitation. These changes in the art led to significant changes in the subject and the sense of «fashion» engraving. The article focuses on the comparison of the French prints the specified period with English and Russian engravings, as well as the influence of the Napoleon wars in their style development.
