Lev Dodin’s «alive theatre»

The paper deals with Lev Dodin’s, the head of Saint Petersburg Maly Drama Theatre - Theatre of Europe, directing practices based on the «alive theatre» methodology following and developing K. S. Stanislavsky’s tradition. Using published data and archival rehearsal recordings, the author describes Dodin’s rehearsal method of role-linings-analogies, arguing that it is a modern implementation of one of Stanislavsky’s major principles, i. e., «I am within the suggested circumstances».
