Updating educational standards in the specialty «Library and information activities» in the Republic of Belarus

The author focuses on key changes in the information sphere, which signif cantly af ect the knowledge and skills requirementsof library and information institutions. She cites the educational standards of the Republic of Belarus that underlie the training in the specialty “library and information activities”. The author notes that in the Republic of Belarus, an important area of activity in the f eldof library and information education is the update of educational standards, curricula, revision of competencies that graduates in thespecialty “library and information activities” should possess. The scientist focuses on the fact that the identif cation of competenciesfocuses on their compliance with the needs of library and information practices, as well as competitive characteristics. The materialdescribes the results of updating the curriculum of the magistracy of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, provides examples of the competencies embodied in the curriculum. As a result of the generalization of foreign publications and practicalexperience on the updating of educational standards in the Republic of Belarus, the author makes conclusions about the maincontent aspects of teaching library and information specialists at the current stage.
