The memorialization of military affairs, involving the killing of people and the destruction of the culture of the
conquered people, is a culturology problem for modern humanistic consciousness. Nevertheless, military history museums that preserve the memory of wars often carry information of value to museum visitors related to a tragic tribal, family, or personal history. In some manifestations, their activities are similar to memorials and necropolises.
Today, the National World War I Museum and Memorial, located in Kansas City (Missouri, USA), is the world’s largest theme museum dedicated to the events of the Great War (1914-1918) and one of the few of American museums, funded by the federal government. The article discusses the history of the creation of the memorial complex and the museum, the stages of its transformation and the process of changing interpretative assessments in the representation of the events of the war, which occurred from 1921 to the present day.
