Museumfication of «Siege Substation»: to Problem Setting

The issue of industrial heritage and its reuse is now becoming increasingly important in Russia and throughout the world. Museumfication is one way to preserve it. Regarding the Central Traction Substation № 11 in St. Petersburg, recognized because of the actions of city defenders as an object of cultural heritage of regional significance in 2016, no conservation and restoration actions have been conducted for five years, which is why the building continues to collapse. The article considers the obstacles encountered by the proponents of transforming the «Blockade Substation» into a museum dedicated to the work of the tram during the war years. Based on the analysis of the results of historical and cultural expertise, the causes and solutions of the problems encountered are identified, which are characteristic not only of the site but also of the industrial heritage.
