The flow of publications on the history of libraries published in the post-Soviet period is analyzed. There are three main stages in the study of history (1991–1997; 1998–2009; 2010–2020) and the characteristic features of each of them are determined. Period 2010–2020 is considered according to several criteria: the topic of publications, types of libraries, the number of articles and books per year, the sources in which the materials were posted, and the number of publications by individual authors. In the first part of the article, attention is paid to research on the scale of Russia or individual regions, as well as publications devoted to the study of the history of pre-revolutionary libraries. In general, the flow of publications on the history of libraries continues to grow every decade, but at the same time it becomes more and more kaleidoscopic: the number of «centralized» generalizing studies is decreasing, while the number of publications in «non-library» regional sources (collections and materials of conferences devoted to the history of a certain edge) increases
