L. V. Sobinov in the culture of St. Petersburg: to the 150th anniversary of his birth

The content of this article is determined by the desire to show the activities of L. V. Sobinov in St. Petersburg at the beginning of the twentieth century. Brief biographical data and the main milestones of his creative activity are given, the peculiarities of the musician’s performing manner are emphasized. The details on the period of Sobinov’s life in St. Petersburg in 1906–1928 are shown, especially the performances in the enterprise «Concerts of A. Ziloti». Based on the letters of Sobinov and Ziloti, which are stored in the funds of the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art, the relationship between the musicians and various pictures of the musical life of Saint-Petersburg can be traced. The correspondence covers the period from 1905 to 1908. And the letters reveal the professional and human relationships of musicians who deeply respected and appreciated each other’s works. One of the storylines of the correspondence relates to the arrival of Sobinov from Milan to perform in the Zealoti entreprise. Information is also given about the place of residence of Sobinov in St. Petersburg – house number eight on Sergievskaya Street Street (now – Tchaikovsky Street), on which a memorial plaque with a bas-relief is installed.
