The preservation of industrial heritage objects is an urgent task of our time for many countries. To solve the problem, it is necessary to determine the cultural, historical and architectural value of the surviving buildings, and to choose the preferred option for their use: museumification, business or commercial use, restart production. At the same time, the specific criterion for evaluating industrial heritage objects is often not uniqueness, but, on the contrary, representativeness – typicality for a particular production. This raises the question of developing a classification of industrial heritage objects. The article provides an overview of currently existing options for such a classification, highlights new grounds for grouping objects, and presents attempt to include objects of intangible industrial heritage into а general classification.
