The priorities of modern education and the contradictions that have arisen in recent years in
educational activities, primarily associated with a change in the nature of the production activities of
specialists, are characterized. The main competencies necessary for a modern specialist with higher
education are considered. As one of the possibilities for the modernization of modern education, the
introduction of STEAM technologies is proposed. The main approaches to the content of STEAMeducation, its advantages and main components are analyzed. The possibilities of implementing STEAM
technologies in library and information education are analyzed. Two directions for implementing the
concept of STEAM education in the library and information sphere are substantiated: the development
of theoretical knowledge using STEAM not within individual disciplines, but in interdisciplinary topics
that integrate approaches, and the implementation of the practical part of training in projects developed
within the framework of interdisciplinary scientific and educational «creative spaces».
