The value of the essence of civic education increases many times in our time since the state of society and the future of the country is determined by their value orientations and an active civic position. The author of the article focuses on the importance of methodological approaches to the problem of civic education in modern conditions. The purpose of the article is to study existing approaches to the definition of the concept of «civic education». This paper examines the essence of the concepts of «civic society» and «civic education», reflecting the relationship between building a civic society and educating a socially responsible citizen, which can be accepted as the goal and condition for the formation of a citizen’s personality. In order to study the problem of civic education, the author studied theoretical sources, research scientists. Methods used in the study: literature review, experiment, comparative analysis. The use of theoretical methods points to the problem of the formation of citizenship as one of the socially significant state tasks; The empirical method of research made it possible to reveal the importance of cultural and competence-based approaches in this direction, based on civic ideas and civic values.
