- The article is dedicated to the Greco-Bactrian kingdom’s numismatics (III–II centuries BC). The coinage with portraits of the Greco-Bactrian monarchs is one of the important sources for learning culture of this state. It contains signif cant information, supplemented documents (Antique and Eastern literal works) and archeological data. These mints help to reconstruct religious ideas of the citizens of the Hellenic origin, their adherence to the Olympic pantheon’s gods and the king’s cult, which was popular during this epoch. Numismatic sources let to describe some chapters of political culture. For example, commemorative emissions were the propaganda instrument. Coins – the most major subject to research the Greco-Bactrian f nancial system. The images on these coins support to rebuild many of the realities of the military organization and to visualize the features of the Greco-Bactrian army. Portraits and sculptural images on the Greco-Bactrian coins have the special cultural value. The king’s f gures, from the one side, look like heroes, but, from the other side, have the individual characters of the person.
