Art-collections of Ptolemaic dynasty (205–30 BC)

The big historical period which followed after the death of Ptolemaeus IV Philopator (205 BC) I didn"t favor to preservation and further enhancement of the collections, which are saved up in the f rst century of board of a dynasty. The state lost external possessions, its occasionally shook internal disorders and palace overturns during which many values were lost. Nevertheless, these hundred seventy f ve years in Alexandria talented sculptors, stone-cutters, painters continued their working. Preservation of commercial relations with the East (Nubia, Ethiopia, Southern Arabia, India) provided to the capital enough both material (jewels and metals, ivory, timber, pearls) and ready artifacts. The special attention in article is paid to time of common ruling of Cleopatra VII and Marcus Antonius (41 – 30 BC), when Egypt became again the center of the great empire, covering east provinces and the dependent states of Rome. The considerable part of collections of Cleopatra VII was taken out to Rome by Octavianus Augustus that gave huge incentive for development of art collecting by Romans.
