Animals in сontemporary аrt culture: unrepresentative interactions

The article analyzes the appeal to the theme of the animal in modern art practices. Taxidermic and wet
items, which earlier have been used exclusively in natural science museums and collections, become actual
works of art, significantly contributing to the arsenal of art techniques. Animal shows in ZOOs and other
public areas became a part of performative art, at the same time creating a ground for critical discussions
about ethical and aesthetic aspects of such representation. Unrepresentative interaction, based on direct
observation of animals in their natural environment, and presentation of the records in digital art media is
developing as an alternative.
