Memorialization of the Great War in parks and landscape objects of the world

The article discusses the practice of preserving the memory of the First World War in gardens, parks and landscape objects in various countries of the Old and New Worlds. The memorial format of park architecture, which originated in the XVIII century, received its ideological and philosophical justifi cation and wide practical distribution in the XX century because of a global catastrophe – the Great War of 1914–1918. Awareness of the responsibility to culture and nature, the artifi cial and natural spheres of human life that can be lost during the destructiveness of hostilities, has led to the development of new forms of memorialization – the unifi cation of the memorial and the “green” zones of landscape space, where there is room for rallying the masses around a signifi cant historical event, and for family or individual experience.
