There is a small variety of Tirthankar’s (so called «fordmakers») images in Jain sculptural tradition and they all are strictly dogmatic, since each of the detail carries a special meaning. One of them is the image of tirthankar under the tree. The semantics of this image and the role of the tree in Jain cosmography and mythology tells the article.
