This study is devoted to the problem of developing cognitive interest with the help of Russian songs in the lessons of Russian as a foreign language. The inclusion of a Russian song in the process of teaching the Russian language to develop the cognitive interest of foreign students requires a modern systematic methodology. The available research on the use of authentic song material in teaching most often focuses on the analysis of the vocabulary, grammar, and phonetics of the song text. In fact, the song, as a carrier of the culture and history of a country, is an excellent linguistic and cultural material that motivates students to become deeply familiar with a country, in which language is learned. All this indicates the need to study the problem of the development of cognitive interest based on the Russian song. The article proposes an author’s model for the development of the cognitive interest of foreign students based on Russian songs.
