Culturological novatics: challenges and solutions

The article presents the experience of substantiation and conceptualization of culturologiсal novatics. The subject of study in this section of theoretical culturology is novelty as a cultural phenomenon. The relationship between novatics, innovatics and traditionology is considered: it is shown that novatics covers the entire field of novation phenomena in culture, while innovations are in the focus of innovatics, i. e., the processes of introducing novelties into a particular practice (in economics, science, technology, art, society, etc.). It is noted that innovations have extremely specific, paradoxical, elusive and «fluid» character. It is emphasized that in order to comprehend novelty as a cultural phenomenon, it is important not only an objective statement of something «new» (previously unknown), but also the «emotional pool» of perception by a person (target audience, society) of this «innovation», as well as the specific historical and cultural context of its appearance. Novelty in culture has a very relative nature, it is characterized by integrity and emergence, unity and diversity, simplicity and complexity, nonlinearity and instability. The specifics and problematic field of culturologiсal novatics are revealed by the example of the book «The novelty of culture or the culture of novelty», published by the author’s team of Saint-Petersburg State Institute of Culture – N. N. Suvorov, I. V. Leonov and O. V. Prokudenkova (2021).
