Cooperation between doctors and architects in projecting the Peter the Great Hospital

There is an attempt to trace possible ways of interaction between architects and specialists from the medical field on the project of the Peter the Great Hospital (1906–1916) by civil engineers A. I. Klein and A. V. Rozenberg. The emphasis is on the specialists’ design practice with experience in hospital construction. Shaping communication with native doctors, as well as acquaintance with foreign specialists and hospital architecture examples play a special role in this experience. The article considers Klein and Rozenberg participation in the activities of professional communities, which also acted as a place for interactions between architects and specialists from other fields and extension of the circle of people interested in the design problem (not only hospitals, but also other types of structures). Also, in the paper briefly analyzes the architect’s application of the received knowledge in practice in subsequent projects and theoretical works.
