Everyday culture is a significant section of modern cultural studies. One of the important aspects of the structure of everyday life is the system of images and ideas about other cultures. Accordingly, the problem of forming ideas about other countries during the Soviet period is of great interest. Since 1947, India is of great importance for the Soviet Union, the process of increasing the information of Soviet citizens with the culture of India began. The main ways of forming the image of India in the space of Soviet mass culture by various means are named in the article. Elements are cinema and television, music, decorative art, periodicals, the publication of special editions, the emergence of mass-market goods. The formation of the idea of the largest non-Communist partner of the USSR among Soviet citizens was the result of this process.
