Chronotope in children’s book illustration of the 1970s

The space-and-time continuum in the children’s book illustration of the 20th century can embody the historical concept ofan artist, carry the plot-semantic and compositional-spatial signif cance, the principle of correlation of the space of the sheet andtime can functionally and meaningfully combine images, contributing to the formation of a holistic idea of the book. At the endof the 1970s, a series of children’s books with extensive illustrative series subordinated to the idea of a common understandingof the spatial and temporal component of the image was published. Illustrations to the «Magic f ute» Boris Dehterev are stylizedas watercolors of the nineteenth century, appropriate theatricality of the representation is combined with elaborate decorativedecisions, the artist uses the ornament and images of the Rococo, the concept of «historicism» takes on special signif cance,connected with the nature of books and the type of edition. Time in «The Cockerel sang» with illustrations by Anatoly Eliseev ispresented both as a conditional past, and as a real current – from dawn to sunset, from awakening to sleep. Shaped a number of«Kashtanka» in the illustrations of Boris Alimov succession and narrative. Eugenie Monin embodies the chronotopic beginning inthe composition of each sheet – in the internal movement of the composition, in the ratio of part and whole, in the visual signsof time. «Magic mirror» by Eric Bulatov and Oleg Vasilyev is a complex set of dif erent types of images and types of illustration, generating interactivity of perception and a special game beginning in the structure of the publication.
