Ship Model as a Collectible: Genesis and Development

Ship models collection can be found in museums of various profi les historical, art, science and technology museums. Many artifacts that are part of those collections are unlike, depending on the purpose of creating a model, their functions. Studying the origin of ship models allows us to trace not only the history of ship modeling, but also to determine the place of a model in culture, the purpose of models, groups of models. The motives for the selection of ship models, their inclusion in a specifi c museum collection, the principles of attribution, and approaches to scientifi c description directly depend on this. Based on domestic and foreign materials, the article gives a detailed overview of the history of the appearance of models, the stages of development of ship modeling.
