The cultural space of the northern capital is a multi-faceted and complex phenomenon, in the history of which there were both progressive and crisis processes. The city has repeatedly regained the right to lead the world culture. The article deals with the problems of the transformation of the cultural space of Leningrad in the pre-war years in the context of the formation of the museum network in the central segment of the city. The article analyzes the role of museums in the cultural integration processes of urban culture, the revival of the cultural center and the cultural space of the entire metropolis.
