Culturecentric approach to the problem of the dichotomy of upbringing and education

The article raises the problem of the dichotomy of education and upbringing, the essence of which lies in the contradictions both between these basic pedagogical concepts and within each of them. The author of the article shows that the problem of dichotomy has historical prerequisites, indicated by representatives of the Russian pedagogical thought of the past L. N. Tolstoy and V. V. Rozanov. Modern pedagogy not only reflects the classical dichotomy of these concepts, manifested in the contradictions between the individual and the social; individualization and massization, but also aggravates them under the influence of Internet technologies. It is possible to solve the problem of dichotomy, according to the author, through a culture centric approach that considers the educational process in its integrity and focus on the cultivation, development and formation of a personality that meets the socio-cultural challenges of modernity.
