It was far away immediately that attention of individual connoisseurs turned to American cultural legacy, discovering its significance as unique and original in form and spirit. In the beginning of the century sort of addiction to European art and neglect of American cultural past caused public concern. As a response followed some state, local and private actions directed to preserve, investigate, collect national legacy. The article concerns the activities of enthusiasts, who contributed to the alteration of this situation (E. Nadelman, M. Karolik, C. Sheeler, E. O. Rockfeller, E. H. Webb and others).
