Interpretation of Dutch classicism of the XVII century

The article is devoted to the study of perception and history of research of Dutch classicism of the XVII century. Based on publications published in the XVII–XX centuries, the conclusion is made about the interest of scientists, painters and travelers in the oeuvre of Dutch classic artists, however, interpretation and estimation of this style and the works of classic painters depended on taste of time and dominating in one era or another of artistic trends. For instance, in the XVII–XVIII centuries, classicism corresponded the tasks of Enlightenment and the work of Dutch classicists was highly appreciated and popular. In the XIX century, the era of Romanticism and historicism begins, artistic guidelines change and art, limited by a number of rules and principles, what classicism was, ceases to be relevant and sharply criticized on the pages of various books. This attitude to classical art persisted until the first quarter of the XX century. Since the second half of the century, the work of Dutch classicists has been actively studied, which continues to this day.
