Poets and Philosophers in Public Space: Hannah Arendt’s view

The author of the article focuses on the problem of the sage in politics. Actualized by the era of totalitarianism, it attracted the attention of political theorists of the twentieth century, among whom was H. Arendt. The article shows what caused Arendt’s reasoning about the role of intellectuals in modern politics, the associated danger for citizens and, accordingly, ways to eliminate the opposition vita activa and vita contemplativa. It was Arendt’s analysis of the Brecht and Heidegger cases that influenced the formation of such a concept as a judging spectator, capable of making intellectuals members of the political community.
