This article explores the history of the Turgenev Museum and the estate of the writer in SpasskyLutovinovo during the Great Patriotic War. One of the most important missions to save and preserve the country’s historical and cultural heritage and restore museum life in the post-war period fell on the shoulders of Soviet museums. The immediate tasks in this process were performed by the museum of I. S. Turgenev in Orel. After being evacuated to Penza, the museum launched an activity, organizing mobile and stationary exhibitions on military-patriotic and historical-literary topics, survey and thematic excursions, collecting work. Returning to Orel in 1944, the museum management set about restoring damaged museum objects, creating permanent exhibitions and counting lost values and cultural objects. The study was based on documents for 1941–1944 stored in the State Archives of the Orel Region. In the funds of the Orel Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian SFSR and the Orel City Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian SFSR.
