The concept of Russian cosmism by S. G. Semenova

Svetlana Grigoryevna Semenova, a major literary critic, Doctor of Philology, was an ardent supporter of the «doctrine of resurrection» by N. F. Fedorov. Thanks to the efforts of Semеnova in our country in 1982, a one-volume collection of works by N. F. Fedorov was published, whose role is extremely great in the formation of the eclectic concept of Russian cosmism during the years of «perestroika». In the concept of Russian cosmism by S. G. Semenova, N. F. Fedorov is the founder of this direction of scientific, religious, philosophical and artistic thought, although cosmists in Russia were long before him. For S. G. Semenova, the central and most essential idea of Russian cosmism is the idea of complete victory over death. However, not all Russian cosmists agreed with the idea of personal immortality, which is understood as immortality in an unchangeable body. This idea of S. G. Semenova is close to transhumanism. The absence of a strict boundary between the living and the inanimate in the works of S. G. Semenova is also close to transhumanistic ideas. «The Doctrine of Resurrection» by N. F. Fedorov is based on very controversial interpretations of biblical texts. This approach emphasizes the magical aspects in the texts of the New Testament. The article shows how S. G. Semenova consistently sought recognition of N. F. Fedorov as a major thinker equal to V. I. Vernadsky and other scientists-cosmists. However, the teaching of N. F. Fedorov does not contain scientific provisions. This is a modern religious teaching with great faith in the future possibilities of humanity.
