Social and cultural practices in system of modern lifelong education

Important elements of modern continuous education system are social and cultural activities, pedagogical
potential of which is considered in the article. Continuing education of children and adults as pedagogical concept
is analyzed in historical perspective in context of formation and development of out-of-school education domestic
system. European model of adult education, which was transformed in the late 20th century into an education
model with the installation «long life learning» is described. Characteristic of formal, non-formal and informal
education as important components of continuing education, which refl ect various methods of organizing
educational process is given. Special attention is paid to substantiation of relationship between non-formal and
informal education and content and functions of social and cultural activities; determining signifi cance of social
and cultural practices as important mechanisms for inclusion of person in continuous education system.
